For a refined and relaxed cocktail experience, head to High Society Cocktail Lounge in Melbourne’s CBD. A hidden jewel above Society Restaurant, one of Melbourne’s oldest Italian eateries, High Society is a stylishly vibrant salon with an art deco flair. Hand painted gold and black silhouette murals, gilded mirrors and gold leafed ceiling feature in the main lounge, while large window views to Bourke St soothe the most jangled of nerves.  For a more intimate experience, hide away in High Society’s private rooms.  The Versace Room features designer wallpaper, Chesterfield lounge and club chairs, and chocolate wool draping originally hung in the Sydney Opera House.  The playfully sexy Piero Fornasetti Room, inspired by the forerunner of Pop Art, features reproductions of the artist’s renowned wall portraits on china plates, along with low-slung changing mood lighting and comfy leather banquettes.  An exterior “New York style” smoking loft adorned with modernized gas lamp lighting and turn of the century Bourke Street mural is the perfect spot for enjoying a fine cigar available for purchase at the bar. For special celebrations, Secret Society on level 2 can cater to up to 80 guests in unique style.  Lavishly adorned with velvet parlour furnishings, glowing lighting and silver leaf finishes, the ambience is somewhere inbetween Marie Antoinette’s boudoir and a Renaissance bordello.
